IF “EVENT MEMORY ” FITS IN HISTORICAL POLICY OF THE STATE IT FALLS INTO THE CATEGORY “THE STATE-SANCTIONED MEMORY” (Airat Faizrakhmanov, candidate of history)

For the 28th consecutive year in Kazan in mid-October a commemoration event is held entitled “Hater kyone” associated with the fall of the Kazan Khanate by troops of Ivan the Terrible in October 1552. What a victory for some, for others it was a bitter defeat and eternal historical trauma. Every nation holds in its collective memory and historical trauma and sacrificial figures (For Tatars, for example, Syuyumbike and Kul Sharif), who are actualized through the myths, legends, history books and popular books, monuments, cinema, literature, cultural and commemorative events. In the end, every “event memory” is separated from the historic event, it constructs a new consciousness and becomes self-valuable phenomenon. If the “event memory” fits into the historical policy of the state, then it falls into the category of authorized state memory, which is reproduced by elites and national institutions. If not, it is tried not to be noticed, and in some cases completely prevent its implementation. In this case, the policy of “historical amnesia” is already turned on.
