If today nature enjoys a warm sunny day, it becomes happily twice – because the first day of summer in many countries is celebrated as the International Children’s Day. This holiday familiar to many Russians as the International Day of Protection of Children.

International Children’s Day – one of the oldest international holidays . The decision to hold was made in 1925 at the World conference on child welfare in Geneva. History is silent as to why the children’s festival was decided to celebrate on June1.

According to one version, in 1925, the Chinese Consul General in San Francisco has compiled a group of Chinese orphans and arranged for them celebration of Duan – jie ( Dragon Boat Festival ), the date of which just came on June 1. By happy coincidence , the day coincided with the timing of “child” conference in Geneva.

After World War II, when the problems of preserving the health and welfare of children were relevant than ever, in 1949 Women’s Congress took place in Paris, which sounded oath of

tireless struggle for lasting peace as the only guarantee of children’s happiness . And, the same year, in the Moscow session of the International Democratic Women’s Federation in accordance with the decisions of its 2nd Congress it was established today’s holiday . A year later , in 1950 June 1, the first International Children’s Day was marked, later this festival began to be celebrated annually.

The International Children’s Day has a flag. On a green background , symbolizing growth, harmony, freshness and fertility, the Earth sign around, stylized figures – red, yellow, blue , white and black are posted. These human figures symbolize the diversity and tolerance. Earth sign, placed in the center – it is a symbol of our common home.

It is interesting that this holiday is actively supported in the countries that have chosen the socialist path of development. In the era of the Soviet Union on June 1, summer vacation began at schools. International Children’s Day was celebrated by speeches and discussions on the rights and welfare of children, conducted screenings of new children’s movies and TV shows, and organized sporting events for children, often inviting to participate parents as well. And today, in many countries on this day, many mass, recreational and cultural activities for children are held.

However, Children’s Day – it’s not just a happy holiday for the children themselves, it is a reminder of the need to protect public rights of the child, for all children grow up happy, learning , doing things you love, and in the future become wonderful parents and citizens of their country.
