Subbotnik cleaning up the cemetery was held in Sakhalin

October 15, 2018

On October 14, representatives of the regional national-cultural autonomy of the Tatars of the Sakhalin region in the framework of the action “Nobody is forgotten” held a clean-up day to clean the territory of the old cemetery No. 1 in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk from debris and overgrown trees and bushes.

The first burials at this cemetery are dated 1947. Today it is in a very poor, uncrowned condition. Many abandoned and unknown graves. From the subsidence of the land monuments mowed down. Fences overwhelmed with large trees.

It is very sad to see, just the heart is crying. They did not deserve such an attitude towards their ashes. Almost in the center of the city there is an old cemetery, it is very insulting and embarrassing that it is in such a state, say representatives of the national-cultural autonomy of the Tatars of the Sakhalin region.

For three consecutive years, the RNKAT JOB initiates the cleanup. The activists are looking for the graves of the Tatars, searching for their relatives, bringing the graves to their proper condition.

Last year, the national-cultural autonomy of the Tatars of the Sakhalin region came out with an appeal addressed to the mayor  Nadsadin with a request to deposit money in the budget to bring the cemetery into proper condition.
