February 20, 2019

Members of the Ida-Virumaa Tatar Cultural Society held a memorial evening for Musa Jalil. The event was timed to the birthday of the great poet, whose works are now known throughout the world and translated into more than 40 languages.

Musa Jalil immortalized his name twice: as a poet and as a hero of World War II. Society chairman Rinat Garifullin and guest from Tallinn, philologist Fevziya Hadiullina, noted the continued importance of Musa Jalil’s creativity for the education of the modern generation, high lyricism, sensuality and wisdom of his poetry.

At the evening dedicated to the Tatar poet, the participants read the poems of the author in two languages, Tatar and Russian. Works performed by the chairman of the Belarusian society Zinaida Klyga and the chairman of Estonian writers Vera Svechina became a real decoration of the evening.

At the end of the event, the hospitable hosts offered guests a real Tatar tea party with sweets. Guest speakers were presented with letters, national painted Tatar aprons and sweet surprises.
