Pechen bazaar – 2015: Fair, Park Reading, Graffiti, Tatar constructivism, Kisekbash, Bookcrossing, Slam

July 31, the “Hay Market” (Pechen Bazaar) has already become an annual tradition in Kazan. The action is held for the third year in a row, but this year, it has acquired the status of the festival.

Thus, within the Pechen Bazaar, in 2015, a fair itself will be held in a format of flash mob: poetry slam, rock festival “Isyan! Fest», «Uku Park” (Park of reading) Graffiti fest, Literary quest “Kisekbash”, Fair of Tatar crafts, Exhibition of works by artist, Tatar constructivist Faik Tagirov (1906-1978), a children’s playground from the center “Sabyylar”, literary photo zone, the presentation of the first chapter of Harry Potter in the Tatar language, installation of the Tatar words, a delicious corner, free microphone, various workshops.

Hay Market was the first time three years ago. Then, in the course of the action the fair and free microphone

was arranged. This year, Hay Market is fully consistent with its nature, the former 100 years ago.

Hay market a century ago was the center of cultural and social life of the Tatars of Kazan – it served not only as a place of sale by different products, but also a place where the Kazan Tatars met and communicated with each other, recognized and reported the news.

The beginning of XX century – a time of flourishing Tatar literature, the theater; the time when the great Tatar poet Gabdulla Tukai lived and worked. Residents of Kazan with their own eyes can become acquainted with the life, style of dress of early XX century, as well as feel themselves like representatives of the era.

Traditionally, the handouts will be prepared for the fair – the newspaper for all visitors. In the first year it was the newspaper “An”, compiled on the basis of newspaper archives of hundred years old with interesting articles about Kazan Tatar settlement.

A special feature this year is that the eight-newspaper will contain scientific articles and info-graphic in the Tatar language and a translation of the first chapter of “Harry Potter” in the Tatar language.

    Tatar culture is very rich on both sides of the Volga.
