February 16, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov met with representatives of the Tatar community of Karelia.
The meeting took place at the administration building of the Government of Karelia. The event was attended by the Head of Karelia Alexander Khudilainen.
Alexander Khudilainen spoke about the support rendered in the republic to national associations. He noted that among the 150 nationalities living in the Republic of Karelia, Tatars by number ranked seventh.
Addressing the participants of the meeting, R. Minnikhanov told about the projects that contribute to the unification of the Tatars around the world and help to preserve the native language and traditions of their people. This is a satellite television channel “TNV-Planet” and “Ana tele ” – a project for learning the Tatar language on the Internet.
R. Minnikhanov marked the importance of preserving national traditions, culture and language of his people. “Russia is strong by her multi-nationality ” – he stressed.
The meeting discussed the implementation of joint projects in the field of culture, art and education of youth. One such project – the creation of the memorial sign to Tatars – victims of political repression at the memorial cemetery in Sandarmokh in Medvezhiegorsk region.
Also, they discussed on holding in Karelia Tatar national holiday – Sabantui, about staging plays Tatarstan authors, the organization of exchange performances of creative groups and other initiatives.
In November 2012, the Tatars of Karelia decided to merge and create a new organization. Such a way the Karelian regional public organization “Society of Tatar culture” Chulpan has appeared, which registration was carried out in August 2014, after a visit to Tatarstan by the head of n Republic of Karelia Alexander Khudilainen in July 2014.
