Tatarstan will continue to negotiate with Moscow on preserving status of “president”

Tatarstan will continue negotiations with the federal government regarding preservation of status of “president” in the name of the head of the republic. This was stated by the Speaker of the State Council Farid Mukhametshin at a press conference during the final session of the national parliament of the fourth convocation.

Answering journalists’ questions, Farid Mukhametshin recalled that incumbent head Rustam Minnikhanov, swearing on the Constitution of Russia and Tatarstan, assumed the title of “President of the Republic of Tatarstan.”

“Why should we give up on this?” – expressed his position F.Mukhametshin and added that this issue – “the subject of negotiations with the federal center.”

Rejection of the idea of the word “president” in the name of the heads of subjects of the Russian Federation was introduced in August 2010 by Ramzan Kadyrov, now called ‘the head of the Chechen Republic. “Later, in December 2010, the President of the Russian Federation adopted a relevant law. By 1 January 2015, the Constitution of the RF subjects must be brought into compliance with the law.
