Vasil Shaykhraziev has viewed   ancient settlement of the Chat Tatars

October  31, 2018

Vasil Shaykhraziev, Deputy Prime Minister of Tatarstan, Chairman of the National Council of the World Congress of Tatars, visited the ancient settlement of the Chat Tatars in the village of Yurt – Ora, which is located 65 km from Novosibirsk. We remind  that these days  chairman of the National Council is on a working visit to the Novosibirsk region.

Vasil Shaykhraziyev saw the sights  of  cultural and historical national museum complex.

Construction of the national museum in the settlement where the Siberian Tatars lived as early as the 8th century has  began two years ago – in 2016

The concept of creating and developing a national cultural and historical museum complex in the village of Yurt-Ora involves not only the museum: tourists will also be able to familiarize themselves with the life of the Chat Tatars, go fishing on the Ob and on the neighboring lake Kinder Kul, ride horses, see how the boat is made  etc.

The village of Yurt-Ora (Umar-aul) is located on the territory of an ancient settlement, on the site of a traditional Siberian Tatars’ residence from the 8th century, registered as a newly discovered monument of archeology. This is a unique  combination of historical, ethnographic and archaeological cultural heritage in the Novosibirsk region. Predominantly indigenous Siberian Tatars live in the village. This ethnos was formed in the Novosibirsk Ob from the XVI century.

The settlement according to Russian documents was called the Chata town. Chat Tatars played a big role in protecting the lands of the Russian state from Teleuts, Dzungars and Kalmyks, served in various forts and towns of Western Siberia. It is known that the chats of the village of Yurt-Ora actively assisted by labor and horses in construction of the Urtamsky (1684), Umrevinsky (1703) and Chaussky (1713) ostrokes. In all the campaigns of the Russian governor the cavalry and detachments of the Chat Tatars certainly participated. The archival materials confirm the participation of Tatar-chats in the Northern War and in the Patriotic War of 1812.

The famous Moscow-Siberian highway ran through the Yurt-Oru – there was a “mail hole” here. The Decembrists went to exile through the village, the convicts went through the stages, Anton Chekhov, who was traveling to Sakhalin, was passing by …

The ethnographic museum complex “The Estate of the Chat Tatar” is open to visitors from today. Now it includes a house built in the early twentieth century, where the national-historical life and lifestyle of the Tatar family, stands with unique archival materials about the births of the village from the 16th century, traditional national clothes, shoes and other curiosities, as well as the Tatar yard with traditional elements have been  recreated. . Also for tourists it is planned to visit the defensive wall of the ancient settlement, dated to the 8th century. It lies along the village beyond the vegetable gardens and inside the adjacent pine forest. They will demonstrate the exhibits found in the result of the planned and planned archaeological excavations.

The goal of the project is to create a unique national, cultural and historical museum complex that performs the functions of a cultural, scientific, educational, social, business nature, focused on the revival, rational use, promotion and development of the historical and cultural heritage of the indigenous people of Siberia (Chatsky Tatars), as well as development and activation of cultural and educational rural tourism in the Kolyvan district of the Novosibirsk region.

We remind  that today Vasil Shayhraziev also met with the governor of the region, Andrey Travnikov. During the negotiations, it was decided to hold a federal Sabantuy 2019 in Novosibirsk.
