Today, the Head of the Republic of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov, arrived in the capital of Abkhazia — the city of Sukhum. The purpose of the visit is to take part in the large-scale national holiday Sabantuy. The festival is organized by the Governments of the Republic of Tatarstan and the Republic of Abkhazia. The World Congress of Tatars and the Aktanysh Municipal District of Tatarstan have been appointed as the responsible organizers.
At the official welcoming ceremony, the Head of Tatarstan was greeted by the President of the Republic of Abkhazia, Badra Gunba, and the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan, Chairman of the National Council of the World Congress of Tatars, Vasil Shaykhraziev.
Immediately upon arrival, Rustam Minnikhanov proceeded to the Sukhum embankment, where he inspected the preparations for the celebration. At 3:30 PM, the official opening ceremony will commence, featuring welcoming remarks from the First Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation, Sergey Kiriyenko, and the President of Abkhazia. As part of the event, Rustam Minnikhanov will address the guests of the festival and present state awards of the Republic of Tatarstan.
The highlight of the day will be the announcement of a passenger car being awarded to the absolute batyr (hero) of Sabantuy.
