Number of tatar language exam takers doubles in Tatarstan

In 2026, the unified republican exam in the native Tatar language was taken by 79 graduates — more than twice the number from the previous year, according to Ilsur Khadiullin, Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Tatarstan. The average score was 84.56.

“This year, significantly more graduates took the exam in their native Tatar language, and the results are much better. One female graduate took two exams — Tatar language and Tatar literature. Her score in Tatar literature was 94.33. Last year, only 32 people chose the exam in Tatar language and Tatar literature,” said the head of the Ministry of Education and Science.

The largest number of exam participants came from Kazan — 58 students. Students from Naberezhnye Chelny, Nizhnekamsk, as well as from the Aznakayevsky, Aktanyshsky, Arsky, Atninsky, Baltasinsky, Bugulminsky, Kaybitsky, Kukmorsky, Muslyumovsky, Novosheshminsky, Nurlatsky, and Rybno-Slobodsky districts also took the test.

Khadiullin described these figures as an indicator of young people’s respect for their native language, culture, and traditions. “In this way, graduates have demonstrated their patriotic attitude toward their native language. They are an example not only for their generation but for the entire population. Knowledge of the language will serve them well in any profession,” the minister emphasized. He also added that all conditions for studying and preserving languages have been created in the region, but the key role is played by the attitude toward the language within the family.
