The interregional conference “Tatars of Priobie: History and Modernity” was held in Tomsk

The interregional conference “Tatars of Priobie: History and Modernity” was held in Tomsk on November 8th. The event brought together scholars, local historians, and public figures from six Russian regions. Four speakers represented the Novosibirsk region.

Shagabutdinov Navil Hasanovich Shagabutdinov, director of the ethnographic museum “Chata Tatar Homestead” in the village of Yurt-Ora, Kolyvan district, presented a paper on “The Historical Settlement of the Chata Tatars in Yurt-Ora: Past and Present”.

Alsina Abuzarovna Shaimardanova, Artistic Director of the Novosibirsk Regional Tatar Cultural Centre, spoke about the contemporary culture and education of Siberian Tatars, using the Novosibirsk region and city as examples.

Sunarova Zulfiya Abdullovna, a resident of Kuibyshev district, shared the history of the Nurgaliev family and discussed the role of migrants from the Volga region in the culture of the Barabinsk Tatars.

Timur Fanilievich Gumirov, Deputy Director for Educational Work, teacher of history and social studies at the municipal budgetary general education institution Y.V.Kondratyuk Aerospace Lyceum, and Senior Lecturer at the Novosibirsk State Pedagogical University, presented a paper titled “Secular Power and Islamic Clergy: A History of Relations as Seen Through the Fate of Mullah M.M. Gumerov of Usmanka Village, Kyshtovsky District, Novosibirsk Region”.

At the plenary session, conference participants were welcomed by N.A. Kiseleva, Deputy Governor of the Tomsk Region; E.V. Timofeev, Acting First Deputy Governor and Head of the Department of Internal Policy and Social Communications; and G.G. Nemtseva, a Deputy and Head of a faction in the Legislative Duma of the Tomsk Region.

The conference included a concert featuring works by Tatar composers performed by students of the College of Music and ensembles from the Tomsk Tatar Culture Center.
