The house is a cultural heritage site located in the village of Novy Kyrlay in the Arsky district of Tatarstan. This one-story log building was built in the traditional style of Tatar peasants of the late 19th century. The windows are decorated with carved platbands with ornaments. The manor includes living quarters, outbuildings, and a courtyard.
The building has undergone roof repairs, stone paving, replacement of internal life-support systems (electricity, heating), restoration of the log cabin, replacement of windows, painting of facades, and work on the internal finishing layer of floors. It is also planned to improve the territory and install outdoor lighting. It is planned to complete the works in 2025, and in April 2026, the celebrations will take place.
The work is being carried out on the eve of the 140th anniversary of the birth of the great Tatar poet. The restoration of the house is important to preserve the memory of the great poet and his significance for the Tatar people. Gabdulla Tukai spent about three years of his childhood in the house of peasant Sagdi Salikhov, which had a significant influence on the formation of his personality and creative path. This house has become a symbol of Tukai’s connection with his roots and people, which makes it particularly significant for Tatar culture. According to Ivan Gushchin, Chairman of the Committee of the Republic of Tatarstan for the Protection of Cultural Heritage Sites, there are more than 100 cultural heritage sites in Tatarstan – monuments of wooden architecture. All of them are carefully preserved. Under a special state program aimed at preserving and restoring these unique objects, two monuments of wooden architecture were restored last year under the Committee’s supervision. In addition, the program contributes to the revival of traditional wooden crafts, which plays an important role in the spiritual and cultural development of the republic.
