The Rais of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov, visited the new building of Tatar Secondary School №2 named after Shigabutdin Marjani, which operates under Kazan Federal University. He was accompanied by Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan, Ilsur Khadiullin, the Minister of Education and Science of Tatarstan, and Marat Akhmetov, the Deputy Chairman of the State Council of Tatarstan.
Tatar Secondary School №2 was founded in 1990 and was named after Shigabutdin Marjani, a prominent Tatar educator and theologian of the 19th century, in 1992. In 2014, the school was designated a National Education Center. Under this concept, the institution became a resource hub for the Ministry of Education and Science of Tatarstan, the World Congress of Tatars, and Kazan Federal University, focusing on the study, preservation, and promotion of the Tatar language, culture, and history. The school’s original building, constructed in 1960, currently accommodates 939 students. In 2024, a new four-story annex was opened, providing space for an additional 270 students.
During the tour of the new building, Ramil Gainullin, the school’s director, provided explanations and updates. Rustam Minnikhanov inspected the multifunctional sports hall, modern classrooms equipped with interactive whiteboards and digital educational tools, mobile classrooms, and laboratories. He also met with teachers and students.
At the school’s engineering center, the Rais was introduced to Ramil Bagaviev, a young mathematics teacher. A graduate of the Marjani Tatar School in 2019, Ramil scored an impressive 399 out of 400 points on the Unified State Exam in four subjects. Today, while pursuing his master’s degree at Kazan Federal University, Ramil also teaches at his alma mater.
Rustam Minnikhanov then visited the Shigabutdin Marjani Museum, which is located on the school’s premises. The museum’s exhibition is divided into six thematic sections, showcasing the life and work of the renowned Tatar educator and his contributions to Tatar society.
Later, the Rais of Tatarstan visited the nearby Boarding Lyceum №2, which specializes in advanced studies in natural sciences and mathematics. The lyceum hosts 325 students from 24 districts and cities of Tatarstan and 15 other regions of Russia. The teaching staff consists of 45 educators, one in four of whom are graduates of the lyceum. The institution is renowned for producing a record number of medalists and winners of All-Russian Olympiads, ranking first in the republic and twelfth in Russia for these achievements.
The lyceum is highly competitive, with 12 applicants vying for each spot. However, its dormitory, which has space for 167 students, cannot accommodate all those in need. The administration appealed to Rustam Minnikhanov to consider improving the living conditions and expanding the dormitory’s capacity. The Rais instructed officials to develop and submit proposals to address this issue.
