In 2024, 14 new mosques opened their doors in Tatarstan. These mosques range in capacity from a few dozen to several hundred people. Specifically, new mosques were inaugurated in the Vakhitov and Privolzhsky districts of Kazan (on the territory of the Children’s Republican Clinical Hospital), in Nizhnekamsk, as well as in the Laishevsky, Zelenodolsk, Sabinsky, Bavlinsky, Aznakayevsky, Alkeyevsky, Aksubayevsky, Yutazinsky, Aktanyshsky, Mamashevsky, Menzelinsky, and Bugulminsky muhtasibs (administrative districts).
It is significant that mosques are now being built comprehensively, incorporating not only prayer halls for performing namaz, but also classrooms, halls for conducting majlises, dining areas, marriage centers, shops, spaces for organizing sacrifices, and places for holding janazahs, along with imam residences.
In addition to the new mosques, many existing mosques in Tatarstan have undergone renovation work. For example, with the participation of the Rais of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov, the historic Novo-Slobodskaya Mosque (1801-1805) (“Ak Mosque”) and the Cathedral Mosque in Almetyevsk were reopened after comprehensive restorations. Extensive renovations were also carried out at the mosques of “Mardjani” and “Iske tash,” as well as in the mosques of Bavlinsky, Tukaevsky, Laishevsky, Apastovsky, and Nizhnekamsk muhtasibs.
In total, 23 mosques were opened in Tatarstan in 2024: four in the Vakhitov and Privolzhsky districts of Kazan, two in the muhtasibs of Laishevsky and Bavlinsky districts, and one each in the Zelenodolsk, Almetyevsk, Aznakayevsk, Alkeyevsk, Aksubayevsk, Tukaevsk, Bugulminsk, Yutazinsk, Aktanyshsk, Mamashevsk, Menzelinsk, Nizhnekamsk, Sabinsky, Apastovsky districts, and in Nizhnekamsk.
