A project exploring the Tatar national theatre will be presented in Kazan

On October 31st, the lecture hall of the Gallery of Modern Art at the State Museum of Fine Arts of the Republic of Tatarstan will host the presentation of the “Text Space” project. Developed by the Gorizont Films documentary production center with the support of the Union of Theatre Workers of the Russian Federation, this project delves into the rich history of the Tatar national theatre, exploring its composer, director, and actor traditions.

“Text Space” comprises a series of video art pieces created by Gorizont Films, accompanied by a music album composed by theatre composer, musician, and performer Yusuf Bikchantaev.

One of the project’s key elements is a video art piece dedicated to Marsel Salimzhanov, director of the Kamala Theatre. Drawing upon archival footage, this work illuminates the evolution of Tatar theatre in the latter half of the 20th century, highlighting Marsel Khakimovich’s key principles and approaches in shaping the national theatre’s spirit.

The presentation will also feature a series of video art portraits of Kamala Theatre actors. Interviews with Alsu Gainullina, Elvir Salimov, Halima Iskanderova, and Leysan Gataullina provide insights into their experiences and perspectives.
