About the “Cultural Revolution of Kazan” will be told in Moscow

March 22 at 19:00 in Moscow will be a presentation of a special edition timed to the exhibition “Moscow-Kazan-Moscow”, and immediately after the lecture of Angelina Lucento (HSE) “Cultural Revolution of Kazan.”
The lecture will deal with the representatives of the “Kazan school” – Konstantin Chebotarev and Faike Tagirov.
Both are known for their active involvement in the art of Jadidism, a special form of Muslim enlightenment. As supporters of socialist ideas, Chebotarev and Tagirov founded the Tatar Left Arts Front, whose task they saw reinterpretations of the ideas of the participation of the masses in artistic practice, as well as the importance of mechanical reproduction promoted by Rodchenko and Klutsis, beginning in 1921. After moving to Moscow, Chebotarev and Tagirov joined VHUTEMAS and thus broadcast the ideas of Jadidism and significantly influenced the development of Soviet modernism and international discourse about the possibility of world art.
