In Kazan, an exhibition dedicated to the 140th anniversary of the outstanding Tatar writer, playwright, publicist, and public figure Fatikh Amirkhan has opened at the Gabdulla Tukay Literary Museum. The exhibition will run for two months.

The display features items from Amirkhan’s memorial collection, housed in the holdings of the National Museum of Tatarstan. Among the particularly valuable exhibits are the writer’s personal belongings: a hat, a frock coat, books published during his lifetime, posters for productions of the drama “Tigezsezlar” in various cities, as well as manuscripts and postcards. For the first time, the manuscripts of the second part of the work “Hayat” (Life), long considered lost, are being shown in their entirety.

The director of the Literary Museum, Guzel Tukhvatova, emphasized that the goal of the exhibition is to reveal Amirkhan as a writer, journalist, and individual, as well as a close friend of the great poet Tukay.

As part of the exhibition, special museum events for schoolchildren are planned: games, quizzes with new information about the exhibits, and lectures.

Tukhvatova also announced that another exhibition will open on January 30th, featuring works by students of a children’s art school. “We suggested that the children read the works of Fatikh Amirkhan and create illustrations based on them,” she noted.

The First Deputy Director of the National Museum of Tatarstan, Umida Gapparova, called the opening of the exhibition an important event for Tatar cultural space and thanked the museum staff for preserving the writer’s legacy and their active work in popularizing his oeuvre.

In her speech, Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor Daniya Zagidullina, emphasized Amirkhan’s influence on Tatar culture and noted that, in her opinion, his talent was largely predetermined by his origins from a family of intellectuals and educators.

The head of the Department of Literary Studies at the G. Ibragimov Institute of Language, Literature and Art of the Academy of Sciences of Tatarstan, Alfat Zakirzyanov, stressed that Amirkhan left a significant legacy in several fields and his work continues to remain relevant.

Professor of Kazan Federal University, literary scholar Khatip Mingulov, drew attention to Amirkhan’s linguistic style and called his works, particularly the novella “Hayat”, examples of elegant Tatar speech. He noted the richness of descriptive means and comparisons in his prose.

Professor of Kazan Federal University Foat Galimullin recalled that during the Soviet period, attitudes toward Amirkhan were negative, but thanks to the work of the G. Ibragimov Institute, which published a six-volume academic collection, his work received renewed recognition.

Following the official part, guests were given a tour of the exhibition. The museum director noted that among the exhibits are many manuscripts capable of influencing Tatar literature, including 22 notebooks with materials from the second part of “Hayat”.
