From October 17 to 27, the VII World War Games under the auspices of CISM (International Military Sports Council) were held in Wuhan (China). They were attended by over 9,000 athletes from 109 countries. The games were held in 329 disciplines of 27 sports, which was a record high.
The Republic of Tatarstan as a member of the Russian national team at the tournament was represented by Taekwondo player Rafael Kamalov, who traditionally successfully performs at major international army competitions. Rafael Kamalov has won the “gold” in taekwondo competitions, becoming the best in the weight category up to 87 kg, defeating his opponent in the final with a score of 28: 9.
Rafael Kamalov was born on September 4, 1997 in the city of Naberezhnye Chelny, is a multiple winner and winner of international taekwondo competitions. He trained at the Kempo youth sports school of martial arts. Subsequently, he moved to Moscow and played for the Dynamo sports society. Later Kamalov moved to the sports school of CSKA.
In 2017, he won gold at the Russian Championship. Then he joined the Russian national Taekwondo team. At the World Universiade he became a bronze medalist.
Rafael Kamalov has the title of master of sports in taekwondo in the category of up to 87 kilograms. In 2018, he won the WTF World Taekwondo Championship among military personnel, which was held in Rio de Janeiro. In February 2019, he won the gold of the International Taekwondo Tournament among G-2 for the Cup of the President of Turkey.
At the end of 2018, Rafael Kamalov was recognized as the Best Athlete of the Year by the International Military Sports Council (CISM).
