A round table was held at the Tatar Gymnasium No. 2 named after M. Vakhitov with participation of representatives of educational institutions, the Naberezhnye Chelny branch of the World Tatars Congress, scientists, and creative intelligentsia. The focus was on the topic of teaching the Tatar language in Naberezhnye Chelny.
According to information voiced by head of the Department of Education and Youth Affairs Rustem Khuzin, in the current academic year, classes began at 78 secondary schools. Of these, in 11 educational institutions, where more than 6 thousand students of Tatar nationality are studying, teaching is conducted only in the Tatar language.
A total of 62,234 children attend city schools. Of these, 25 515 (41%) are children whose parents are Tatars.
The teaching schedule of all schools includes teaching the Tatar language and literature. 41,300 (68%) students chose Tatar as their native language. As for the teachers in the Tatar language, there was no reduction among them. On average, the load on teacher remained at the level of 20-25 hours per week. Also, 192 teachers of the Tatar language, having received a new education, continued to teach other subjects in schools.
At the end of the conversation, deputy head of the executive committee of the city, Ramil Halimov, emphasized that in no educational institution of Chelny there is a ban on learning the Tatar language, it all depends on the choice of the parents of the pupils. He assured that the wishes and suggestions made at the round table would be examined and summarized.
