Danis Shakirov on the Millat Zhiyeny (“National Assembly”): over 1,000 delegates expected from 68 regions and 27 countries

Kazan will host the large-scale Millat Zhiyeny (“National Assembly”), organized by the World Congress of Tatars, bringing together more than 1,000 delegates from 68 regions of Russia and 27 countries worldwide. The announcement was made at a press conference at Tatar-Inform by Danis Shakirov, head of the World Congress of the Tatars’ executive committee.

“The largest delegation is coming from Bashkortostan, with 93 representatives. Our compatriots across regions and countries look to Kazan, and the World Congress of the Tatars unites them in one major forum. The Millat Zhiyeny is held between two Congresses of the World Congress of Tatars to address urgent issues and to outline strategic directions for the development of the Tatar nation in today’s changing conditions,” said Shakirov.

The forum will open on August 26 with a ceremonial event at the historic Galiaskar Kamal Theater.

“This year the Millat Zhiyeny will take place in an expanded format. On August 27, delegates will split into four groups to participate in the 9th World Forum of Tatar Youth, the 7th World Congress of Tatar Women, the All-Russian Assembly of Tatar Local Historians, while another group will visit the Arsky District and Kyrlay,” Shakirov explained.

The event will conclude on August 28 with a plenary session at the M. Jalil Opera and Ballet Theater, attended by the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov.
