Executive Director of RNKATNO Took Part in an Expanded Meeting of the Interfaith Council of Nizhny Novgorod

The Executive Director of the Regional National-Cultural Autonomy of Tatars of the Nizhny Novgorod Region (RNKATNO) and member of the Public Chamber of Nizhny Novgorod, Timur Sharafutdinov, took part in an expanded meeting of the Interfaith Consultative Council, held jointly with the Commission on Interethnic Relations under the city administration.

The meeting was chaired by the Mayor of Nizhny Novgorod, Yury Vladimirovich Shalabaev, and brought together representatives of traditional religious confessions, national-cultural autonomies, the Public Chamber, the academic community, and government authorities.

During the roundtable discussion, key federal policy documents were reviewed:

  • The Concept of State Migration Policy through 2030

  • The Strategy for the Implementation of State National Policy through 2036

Special attention was given to issues of strengthening interethnic harmony, preventing radicalism, the role of educational and cultural projects, and cooperation between civil society institutions and public authorities.

Mayor Yury Shalabaev emphasized that the language, culture, and history of the Russian people form the foundation of Russia’s unified cultural code, and that all joint efforts should be aimed at strengthening social cohesion, especially in the lead-up to 2026.

It was noted that in recent years Nizhny Novgorod has developed a systematic model of interfaith and interethnic dialogue based on sociological research, academic expertise, and practical work with youth. In 2025 alone, more than 40,000 residents of Nizhny Novgorod took part in events related to interethnic relations.

RNKATNO traditionally supports a course toward constructive dialogue, preservation of cultural diversity, and strengthening of a unified Russian civic identity, actively participating in the work of city and regional consultative platforms.

Unity in diversity is the foundation of sustainable development for our city and region.
