Today, February 15, commemorative events are being held in Tatarstan to celebrate the 120th anniversary of the birth of the Hero of the Soviet Union, Lenin Prize laureate, and Tatar poet Musa Jalil.
Flowers were laid at the monument to Musa Jalil on May 1 Square in Kazan this morning by the Rais (Head) of the Republic of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov. Musa Jalil’s daughter, Chulpan Zalilova, took part in the ceremony. The event was also attended by Mintimer Shaimiev, State Advisor of the Republic of Tatarstan; Farid Mukhametshin, Chairman of the State Council of the Republic of Tatarstan; and Ilsur Metshin, Mayor of Kazan.
Additionally, participants of the VIII International Literary Contest “Jalil Readings,” led by Danis Shakirov, First Deputy Chairman of the National Council of the World Congress of the Tatars — Head of the Executive Committee of the World Congress of the Tatars, laid flowers at the monument to the great poet.
