February 6-7, in Istanbul, a Forum dedicated to all styles of Traditional and Associated styles of wrestling of the world countries under the auspices of the organization UWW (United World Wrestling), overseeing a variety of wrestling all over the world (in 2014 international FILA Wrestling Association received a new name – United World fight (UWW) took place.
The forum was held in a large conference hall of the hotel “Radisson Blue”, attended by representatives from more than 30 countries from four continents – Europe, Asia, America and Africa.
The forum has been opened by a welcoming speech of UWW President Mr. Nenad Lalovic as well as president of the Wrestling Federation of the Republic of Turkey Mr. Musa Aydin.
Mr. Nenad Lalovic thanked all those present for having responded to his invitation and said how important it is to hold such meetings and discussions, and later make joint decisions. He also marked the importance of opening the UWW branch in Istanbul.
This was followed by a report on the history and evolution of traditional wrestling from Prof. Dr. Sc. Mehmet Turkmen.
After the presentations of such kinds as Grappling, Pankration and Belt wrestling, the Federations participating in the forum , representing traditional wrestling ,the opportunity was given to present their sport and familiarize the audience with its features.
A total of 15 different presentations of traditional forms of struggle in countries such as Ukraine (belt wrestling), Kazakhstan (kures and belt wrestling in snow), Kyrgyzstan (Alysh), Uzbekistan, Senegal, Zimbabwe, Russia (Koresh and Hapsagay), Turkey ( Kırkpınar Yağlı Güreş, Aşırtmalı Aba Güreşi), Mongolia, France (Gouren – Breton wrestling), Turmenistan (Goresh), Iran (Women’s struggle) and others were held.
The delegation of Turkmenistan in addition to presenting combat Goresh, announced the upcoming 5th Asian Indoor Games and Martial Arts to be held in 2017 in Ashgabat.
On behalf of the Federation of Koresh of Russia and the International Belt Wrestling Koresh sport “Koresh” in the context of its history, evolution and future prospects was presented.
The Forum as a whole discussed ways of development of traditional forms of wrestling and the possibility of their inclusion in the program of the international multi-sport games and festivals, such as the European Games, Asian Games, World Games, Games SportAccord, Summer Universiade, as well as the Olympic Games.
The UWW has suggested the possibility of organizing the International Festival of Traditional Wrestling Sports.
There was need for UWW standard to the rules of the competition and their unification, and it was proposed to hold annual seminars and courses for judges.
The forum highlighted the importance of paying attention to paralympic sports, which is the social obligation of the sports federations.
Gathering for the first time for many years in one place representatives of various countries and continents, of course, is a good stimulus for progressing the world wrestling.
It is worth noting that the Forum itself, dedicated to all styles of Traditional and Associated wrestling was very productive and dynamic. At the same time, it has shown that the parties have accumulated a lot of questions and a meeting of this kind was very timely in finding ways to resolve them.
