IN MUSCAT, THE TATARSTAN DELEGATION PRESENTED AN EXHIBITION

The Masters of Tatarstan have absorbed the traditions of Tatar national life, culture, and art since childhood. This is undoubtedly reflected in their creative works.

In the capital of the Sultanate of Oman, the city of Muscat, as part of the International Unity Festival, the World Congress of Tatars, together with the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Tatarstan, presented an exhibition titled “From the Volga to the Gulf: Living Art of Tatarstan.” The exposition was organized by the State Budgetary Institution “Resource Center for Innovation and Preservation of Traditions in the Cultural Sphere of the Republic of Tatarstan.”

The Director of the Resource Center for Culture of Tatarstan, Alsou Miftakhova, noted:

“Preserving the traditions of our people’s national costume and their development in a modern direction is one of our key tasks today. Therefore, at the exhibition, we presented reconstructions of Tatar costumes from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This is a large-scale project implemented jointly with the National Museum of the Republic of Tatarstan. We recreated the complete image of a family of that time: the man is presented in the image of an imam, the woman in the image of an abystay (the wife of a religious figure). Next to them are their son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren. The costumes are adorned with traditional national jewelry and accessories well-known to the Tatar people. Kalfak, tyubeteika, kalyapush, hasite, neck chains, ichigi — every detail corresponds to the clothing of that era.”

“The exhibition also featured examples of national footwear made using the ‘kayuly kun’ (leather mosaic) technique. In the republic, such footwear is produced by the brand ‘Sahtian.’ These ichigi are a distinctive symbol of Tatar culture. They are made from multi-colored leather, decorated with floral and plant ornaments, executed with gold thread and silk threads,” emphasized Alsou Ravilevna.

Visitors to the exhibition had the opportunity to get acquainted with the national heritage of Tatarstan, traditional ornaments, and examples of decorative and applied art.
