The Permanent Mission of the Republic of Tatarstan in the city of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region held awarding of the winners of the All-Russian Children’s Drawing Contest among pupils of orphanages, boarding schools, students of secondary schools and educational institutions entitled “Legends and myths about Kazan cats”. The event is held for the third year in a row by the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Tatarstan in the city of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, together with the Leningrad branch of the All-Russian Police Association. The competition was attended by more than 150 works from 15 regions of Russia and neighboring countries, which were accepted for the contest within four months.
During the event, an exhibition of the best works of the contestants was organized. The works by the smallest contestants from 3 to 5 years old especially pleased the jury with their sincerity, fresh children’s view of the world around them and their pets.
By announcing this competition, the organizers wanted through drawing to engender children’s interest in studying the history of our country, to show them inquisitiveness to everything that surrounds them. In the task of the competition, there was an incentive for young artists to show interest and desire to find, “dig”, … how could Kazan cats are connected with the history of St. Petersburg? Having read books about it in libraries, the children had to draw, first of all, the Kazan cat, his difficult journey on horse drawn carts to the capital and then their merciless fight with the mice that filled the (then wooden) Winter Palace.
Renat Valiullin, the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Tatarstan, thanked all the participants of the competition, presented diplomas and memorable gifts to the authors of the best works and congratulated everyone on the upcoming New Year. The event was held in a cozy and warm atmosphere. Young artists thanked the organizers of the competition for the wonderful holiday presented to them.
