On the 21st day of the month of Jumada al-Awwal (12 November), the International Olympiad in Islamic Disciplines and the Arabic Language opened at the Russian Islamic Institute in Kazan — a unique event in the field of Islamic education in Russia. The competition brings together students from more than 20 higher Islamic educational institutions across Russia, including Tatarstan, Bashkortostan, Dagestan, Chechnya, Ingushetia, Kabardino-Balkaria, and Moscow, as well as participants from abroad — Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Iran, India, Türkiye, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Pakistan.
The participants were welcomed by Rafik Mukhametshin, Deputy Mufti of the Republic of Tatarstan for Education, Rector of the Russian Islamic Institute and the Kazan Islamic University, who emphasized the significance of the event and its growing international status.
A welcoming address was also delivered by Alexey Petrov, Deputy Director of the Foundation for the Support of Islamic Culture, Science and Education:
“It is safe to say that no one in Russia holds Olympiads of this level and scale in Islamic disciplines and the Arabic language. It is wonderful to see such a large number of participants from Russia and other countries who have come to take part. I wish you all success — and, as they say, may the strongest win!”
The Olympiad is held in three categories: Islamic Law, Fundamentals of Religion, and Arabic Language. The competition tasks include written tests, and participants in the Arabic Language category must also demonstrate their oral proficiency.
