Kazan to host citywide Mawlid celebrating the 1500th Anniversary of the Prophet ﷺ with Hajj Trip Giveaway

On August 29, Kazan will host a citywide Mawlid celebration dedicated to the birth of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. This year’s event is marked by a historic milestone — the 1500th anniversary of the Messenger ﷺ according to the Hijri calendar. For the first time, the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Republic of Tatarstan, with the support of the republic’s leadership, the Ministry of Culture of Tatarstan, and the “Old City” Prefecture of the Kazan Executive Committee, will organize the celebration on a large scale as part of Republic Day festivities. All residents of Kazan and guests of the capital are invited.

The citywide Mawlid an-Nabi in Kazan will take place in the Old Tatar Settlement, near the monument to the Tatar theologian Sh. Marjani. The celebration will begin at 3:00 p.m.

Organizers have prepared a rich religious and educational program for guests of all ages. The highlight of the event will be the raffle of several trips for Hajj and Umrah, open to all Muslim attendees. The headliner of the festival will be the well-known Russian nasheed group “Nashidul Islam,” who will perform their most popular pieces about the Messenger ﷺ and love for the Almighty, in both Arabic and Russian. The stage program will also feature theatrical performances on Mawlid themes, speeches (vaaz) by respected imams, and creative numbers by well-known Tatar artists and ensembles, all within religious guidelines. Children will enjoy quizzes with prizes.

The blessed month of Rabi‘ al-Awwal, known in Tatar tradition as Mawlid, will begin on August 23, 2025, at sunset and last until September 22. It is one of the most significant months in the Islamic calendar, honored by the birth of the final Messenger of Allah, Muhammad ﷺ. “Mawlid” in Arabic means “birth,” and “Mawlid an-Nabi” refers specifically to the birth of the Prophet ﷺ. Mawlid is traditionally celebrated throughout the entire month of Rabi‘ al-Awwal. On this occasion, mosques across Tatarstan will host thematic evenings and gatherings (majlis). The first day of Rabi‘ al-Awwal (August 24) will open with a Mawlid at the historic Maskarinskaya Mosque in Kukmor District, attended by imams from across the republic. On the 12th day of Rabi‘ al-Awwal (September 4) — the exact day of the Prophet’s ﷺ birth — a special Mawlid will be held in the White Mosque in Bolgar.
