On May 28, the World Congress of the Tatars hosted an All-Russian roundtable conference on the topic “Presentation of Local History Books Dedicated to the History of the Great Patriotic War, Published by Scholars and Local Historians of Perm Krai and the Republic of Tatarstan.”
The moderator of the roundtable was Albert Burkhanov, Head of the Committee for Work with Tatar Local Historians of the WCT Executive Committee, member of the WCT National Council, and Chairman of the Council of the Regional Public Organization “Society of Tatar Local Historians” of the Republic of Tatarstan.
Albert Akhmetzhanovich spoke about the results and future prospects of the activities of Tatar local historian structures in the districts of the Republic of Tatarstan and the regions of the Russian Federation.
Danir Zakirov, son of a fallen WWII front-line soldier and Chairman of the RPO “Tatar Local Historians of Perm Krai,” presented his new book titled “The Perm Tatars in the Battles for the Motherland on the Fronts of the Great Patriotic War, 1941-1945. A Historical, Journalistic, and Scholarly Publication.”
The book “Children. War. Fates… Suguş. Sabyylar. Yazmyshlar…” was presented by its compiler, the project’s ideator, and a teacher of history and social studies, Almira Sharifullina.
Zufar Valiakhmetov, a native of the village of Appakovo in the Alkeevsky district of the Republic of Tatarstan and head of the Department for the Implementation of Sports Programs of the WCT Executive Committee, spoke about his new book “They Forged Victory in the Rear.”
Honored Cultural Worker of the Republic of Tatarstan, poet Fazikh Fatikhov, and teacher of history of the highest qualification category, member of the Union of Journalists of the Republic of Tatarstan, and member of the Council of the Society of Local Historians of the Republic of Tatarstan, Ilfar Gabdrakhmanov, presented the book “Үлемсезлек / Immortality.”
The conference continued with speeches by representatives of local communities, leading scholars, and regional historians. At the end of the event, the results of the roundtable conference were summarized.
