On the 12th day of the month of Rabi‘ al-Awwal (September 4), Bolgar hosted the traditional event Mawlid an-Nabi in honor of the birthday of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. This is one of the greatest dates in the history of the Muslim ummah – the birthday of the best of mankind, our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. This year’s Mawlid was marked by a great jubilee – the 1500th anniversary of the Messenger ﷺ according to the Hijri calendar.
On this occasion, the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Republic of Tatarstan gathered imams-mukhtasibs from all over Tatarstan, elders, teachers and students, lecturers and students of the Bolgar Islamic Academy (BIA), as well as veterans of the Special Military Operation and residents of the Spassky district at the White Mosque.
On behalf of the Mufti of Tatarstan, Kamil hazrat Samigullin, his first deputy Ilfar hazrat Khasanov congratulated everyone on Mawlid. In his address, he emphasized the virtues, importance, and necessity of holding Mawlid:
“The greatest blessing for mankind is the birth of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. In the Qur’an it is said: ‘And We have not sent you, [O Muhammad], except as a mercy to the worlds.’”
He called on the participants to recite salawat during the performance of the qasida and to seek the intercession of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ on the Day of Judgment.
The Chief Qadi of the Republic of Tatarstan, Jalil hazrat Fazlyev, noted that the tradition of celebrating Mawlid among the Tatars has always existed.
A special highlight of the Mawlid was the performance of the famous qasida Mawlid an-Nabi in the Tatar maqam style, led by the Honored Artist of the Republic of Tatarstan, Marsel Vagizov.
During the majlis, veteran of the Special Military Operation Ilgiz Minnullin also addressed the elders and imams-mukhtasibs of the republic, expressing gratitude to Mufti Kamil hazrat Samigullin and the Muftiate for the successful organization of humanitarian aid deliveries from the SAM RT (Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Tatarstan) and the Muslims of Tatarstan to the special operation zone for soldiers mobilized from Tatarstan.
On the same day, the Zakat Charity Fund of the SAM RT presented veterans of the operation with gift parcels – food packages – in honor of Mawlid. In addition, an excursion was organized for the veterans around the Bolgar State Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve.
After the Mawlid, Ilfar hazrat Khasanov made a du‘a for the defenders of the Fatherland and the well-being of the Motherland.
This year, the blessed month of Rabi‘ al-Awwal, known among the people as the month of Mawlid, began with sunset on August 23 and will last until September 22. The mosques of Tatarstan are holding themed evenings and majlises dedicated to this occasion. Mawlid in Arabic means “birth,” and Mawlid an-Nabi is the birth of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Throughout the month of Rabi‘ al-Awwal, events are held that include narrations and qasidas about the life of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and his companions, praises of the Almighty and His Messenger ﷺ, religious chants, and recitation of the Holy Qur’an.
The entire staff of the Bolgar Islamic Academy took an active part in organizing and holding Mawlid an-Nabi, making a significant contribution to the event. We express our sincere gratitude to the rector of the Bolgar Islamic Academy, Farkhat Gusmanovich Khusnutdinov, for his assistance and support.
