Meeting of the National Council of the World Congress of the Tatars held in Kazan

Today, a meeting of the National Council of the World Congress of Tatars was held at the N. I. Lobachevsky Scientific Library of Kazan Federal University. The event began with a welcoming address by Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan and Chairman of the National Council of the World Congress of Tatars, Vasil Shaykhraziev. Following the address, participants heard a report on the organization’s activities.

During the meeting, a decision was made to hold the National Assembly (Millät Cıyını) in 2025 under the slogan “Tatarstan – My Spiritual Homeland.”

The event is scheduled to take place from August 26 to 28 in Kazan, with 1,000 delegates expected to attend. Alongside the National Assembly, plans are in place to hold the World Forum of Tatar Women, the World Forum of Tatar Youth, and the All-Russian Gathering of Tatar Local Historians.

In addition, members of the National Council unanimously approved the list of recipients for the “National Hero” (Millät Qaharmanı) Order. This year, two individuals were nominated for this prestigious award: Indus Tagirov (Chairman of the Executive Committee of the World Congress of Tatars from 1992 to 2002) and Rinat Zakirov (Chairman of the Executive Committee from 2002 to 2017).

Background:
The “National Hero” Order is the highest award of the World Congress of Tatars, presented for outstanding contributions to the development of the Tatar people. To date, only four individuals have received this honor: Mintimer Shaimiev, Rustam Minnikhanov, Makhmut Gareyev, and Farid Mukhametshin.
