On City Day in Tolyatti, Sabantuy was celebrated for the 38th time

In Tolyatti, the folk Tatar holiday Sabantuy was held, dedicated to the completion of spring fieldwork. Today, in Victory Park, representatives of the city administration, the public, the Tatar city national-cultural autonomy, the clergy, residents, and guests from the Republic of Tatarstan gathered.

“In honor of City Day, we annually hold our national holiday, Sabantuy. I wholeheartedly congratulate you on it! I wish you strong health, happiness, peace, and prosperity!” — said Islam Gumerov, Chairman of the Tatar City National-Cultural Autonomy of Tolyatti, addressing the citizens of Tolyatti.

The head of the city, Ilya Sukhikh, emphasized the significance of the tradition of celebrating two holidays on one day and presented letters of appreciation to Islam Gumerov and to Radik Islyamov, head of the Rybno-Slobodsky municipal district of the Republic of Tatarstan.

Deputy Chair of the Samara Regional Duma, Ekaterina Kuzmicheva, and regional parliament deputy, Vladimir Bokk, noted that Sabantuy unites people of different nationalities.

A guest of the celebration, Radik Islyamov, also congratulated the people of Tolyatti on Sabantuy:

“Sabantuy is an integral part of Tatar culture. It knows no social, age, national, or religious boundaries. This year, the holiday is dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory and the Year of the Defender of the Fatherland. Undoubtedly, Sabantuy has always been and remains a holiday for farmers and all rural workers, whose tireless work ensures the food security of our state. We, representatives of the Republic of Tatarstan, wholeheartedly wish you strong health, peace, well-being in everything, rich harvests in the fields, abundance on the table, and harmony in the soul. May this Sabantuy be a symbol of faith, a symbol of our unity, and bring happiness and prosperity to every home. Congratulations to your city on its birthday!”

For residents, a rich thematic program was organized. There was a fair with national dishes, clothing, and other goods, competitions in the traditional wrestling sport “Koresh,” folk games, and much more. Local groups and well-known performers from the Republic of Tatarstan were invited to Sabantuy in Tolyatti.

As tradition dictates, during the holiday, representatives of the city administration and the Tatar community planted a “Tree of Friendship.”
