On March 14, in the House of Friendship of the Leningrad Region, students from the 10th form of the school № 325 of the Frunzensky district of St. Petersburg visited the city. The event was organized by the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Tatarstan in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, within the framework of the Khokhloma Festival Competition held this school year.

The purpose of the excursion is to get acquainted with the history and national culture of the Tatar people and with the culture of the peoples living on the territory of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region.

Deputy Permanent Representative of the Republic of Tatarstan Damir Sabirov and head of the cultural institution of the Leningrad Region Vladimir Mikhaylenko introduced the youth to the main directions of work, youth projects implemented by the Permanent Mission of the Republic and the House of Friendship within the framework of cooperation.

After the meeting, the schoolchildren visited the Interactive Museum of the Tatar people, where they viewed household items, stoves, furniture, musical instruments, national clothes, shoes, handicrafts, books of early editions, and others. The museum presents only genuine evidence of the past, for only in this way can the true essence of history be preserved. Children completely plunged into the historical environment, became participants, not passive spectators. In addition to educational significance, the museum’s visit was educational and enlightening. For schoolchildren, activist of the Tatar youth movement of St. Petersburg, Safiya Kichemasova conducted an interactive lesson in the museum and told about the customs and rituals of the Tatars and about Sabantuy national holiday.

At the end of the event, and according to the Tatar custom, the children were treated to tea with the traditional national treat “Chak-chak”.

Schoolchildren were delighted with visiting the museum, left a lot of impressions of the exhibits. After the tour the children thanked the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Tatarstan and representatives of the museum for hospitality.
