Rustam Minnikhanov met with the Tatar community in the UK
November 26, 2018
President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov met with representatives of the Tatar community in the UK today as part of his working visit to London. The meeting was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister of Tatarstan, Chairman of the Milli Shura National Council of the World Tatar Congress Vasil Shaikhraziyev.
Currently, more than 500 Tatars live in the UK. Almost all of them are representatives of the new wave of emigration, having arrived here from Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and the Baltic countries. Most of them live in England.
In 2017, the Youth Wing of the Zaman Tatar-Bashkir Community was organized. The goal of this community is to preserve the national identity of the Tatars and Bashkirs, as well as to acquaint British citizens with the history, customs and traditions of the two peoples. Now “Zaman” has about 40 activists participating in the organization of events, meetings and educational courses.
Coordinator of “Zaman” Diana Yakhina said that today the organization has held more than 20 events: national holidays, creative evenings. This year, for the first time, the UK participates in the international action “Tatarcha dictation”.
Special attention is paid to the topic of preserving the Tatar language. Today in the central mosque of London there are Tatar language courses for beginners. Lessons are conducted by a writer, a teacher at the University of London, Rustem Sulteev. In the future, the community plans to hold a master class in the Bashkir language.
Rustam Minnikhanov highly appreciated the active position of the Tatar-Bashkir community “Zaman”, which does a lot of work not only to preserve, but also to develop the culture, native language, customs and traditions of the Tatar people.
The President of Tatarstan noted that there are relatively few Tatars in the Great Britain, therefore it is necessary to keep in touch with each other, to organize joint meetings. To organize this work, Rustam Minnikhanov suggested actively using social networks.
“In Tatarstan today no more than 30 percent of Tatars live. The rest are presented throughout Russia and abroad. If we want to preserve our national traditions and language, we need to communicate, find various forms for this. The contribution of the Zaman community to this good cause is very large. We thank and are proud of you, ”added Rustam Minnikhanov.
Then the representatives of the Tatar community performed several creative performances for the guests. Rustam Minnikhanov, in turn, marked the members of the Zaman community with the Gratitudes by President of the Republic of Tatarstan for the preservation and development of Tatar national traditions, language and culture.
