On October 22, South African President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa, who arrived in Kazan to take part in the BRICS summit, was met by the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov at the Kazan International Airport.

The Republic of South Africa received an invitation to join the association in 2010 from China. Already at the summit in 2011, the name of the Group «lengthened» by one letter and became known in the current name «BRICS», where «S» means «South Africa». South Africa is actively promoting the interests of the entire African continent, positioning itself as a representative of this territory. Last year, the Republic of South Africa chaired BRICS.
