On March 2nd, Tatar language lessons for schoolchildren will begin in 62 mosques and all Islamic educational institutions of the Spiritual Administration of the Muslims of the Republic of Tatarstan (DUM RT) as part of mosque course programs and supplementary education programs.
The project is being implemented under the name “Bez tugan telne oirenabez!” (“We are learning our native language!”) with the support of the Commission under the Rais of the Republic of Tatarstan for the Preservation, Development of the Tatar Language and Native Languages of Representatives of Peoples Living in the Republic.
In total, the courses will cover 34 districts of Tatarstan. The Islamic educational institutions of DUM RT, where lessons will be organized alongside mosques, include: Kazan Islamic University, Russian Islamic Institute, 8 madrasahs, the “Usmaniya” school (Kazan), the “Ikhsan” school (Yelabuga), and the “Hajar” spiritual and moral center (Apastovo urban-type settlement). At all locations, classes will be taught by highly qualified instructors.
The Tatar language courses will be held twice a week for two hours each. The main textbook for the classes will be “Tatar Step by Step: An Intensive Course,” developed by leading researcher at the Institute of Language, Literature and Art of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor, Honored Teacher of the Republic of Tatarstan M. Shakurova and L. Giniyatullina.
Teachers of mosque lessons will also be offered other textbooks and manuals. In particular, the book “Rasemle tatarcha-ruscha tematik suzlek” (Illustrated Tatar-Russian Thematic Dictionary) by authors Firaz and Chulpan Kharisov, as well as the textbook “Tatarcha soylashik. Let’s Speak Tatar” by a group of authors.
The work program for the Tatar language courses, designed for 48 lessons, was developed by the Department of Tatar Language and National Culture of the Russian Islamic Institute jointly with the G. Ibragimov Institute of Language, Literature and Art of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan.
Support for Tatar language teachers in mosques and madrasahs will be provided through an electronic platform that contains textbooks, didactic materials, presentations, and other resources.
The Tatar language courses are free of charge. Upon successful completion of the courses, participants will be issued certificates.
