Tatars  recommend giving children Tatar names to preserve identity

Naming of children by Tatar names was determined  among the “most important areas of action” in the sketch on the Development Strategy of the Tatar people presented on Wednesday. As Kommersant-Kazan wrote, the Strategy to “develop the identity of the Tatar people in a changing world”  the World Tatar Congress plans to adopt.

According to the registry office of the Tatarstan Cabinet of Ministers, currently the most popular names for newborns in the region are Amir and Yasmina. Timur, Kamil and Karim are among the ten most sought-after names for boys, and Amina, Amelia and Azalia for girls.
