The chairman of the parliamentary commission of historical memory and the struggle for freedom, Arunas Gumulyauskas, proposes to declare 2021th the year of culture and history of the Tatars of Lithuania.
In two years, 700 years of the conclusion of an alliance between the head of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, Gediminas and the Tatars, will be celebrated, and then the anniversary of the joint struggle with the Order of the Crusaders will be celebrated.
“(…) The community of the Tatars of Lithuania made a significant contribution to the restoration of Lithuanian statehood, to history and culture, linked its life with Lithuania and is an inseparable part of its history,” says the draft resolution of the Sejm.
By the document, the government is invited to prepare the program of the year of the history and culture of the Tatars of Lithuania by October 1, 2020 and approve it, and provide in the budget for 2021 funds for its implementation.
