Participants and guests were congratulated by Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Arkhangelsk Region Igor Skubenko, Chairman of the Arkhangelsk City Duma and Secretary of the regional branch of “United Russia” Ivan Vorontsov, City Duma deputy Mikhail Ivanov, Acting Head of the City Administration Staff Alexander Mashchalgin, and Head of the Varavino-Faktoriya District Gleb Vashutkin.
“Over the years, Sabantuy has become an important part of the City Day celebrations. Our city is multicultural, and this holiday has become dear and long-awaited for all residents,” noted Ivan Vorontsov.
He also thanked Rim Kalimullin, Chairman of the Tatar National-Cultural Autonomy of the region, Deputy Chairman of the Arkhangelsk City Duma, and member of the “United Russia” faction, for organizing such a large-scale Sabantuy celebration, calling it a true gift for City Day.
Rim Kalimullin, the main organizer of the event, emphasized in his speech that this year’s Sabantuy is dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the victory over fascism and called for support for the soldiers in the Special Military Operation zone.
“Sabantuy is a traditional Tatar-Bashkir holiday. It symbolizes the end of fieldwork and is a celebration of the harvest. In the Varavino-Faktoriya district, it has become a good tradition to mark this holiday. Thank you to Rim Mukamilevich Kalimullin and his team for organizing it. I would like to congratulate everyone on this wonderful Sabantuy celebration! This day symbolizes unity, friendship, and our shared history. May warmth and comfort always reign in your homes, and may joy and hope live in your hearts,” said City Duma deputy and “United Russia” member Mikhail Ivanov from the stage.
Folk and honored artists of the Republic of Tatarstan and creative groups from the capital of the Pomorye region performed for the residents and guests of Arkhangelsk. Various prizes were raffled off, a Kurash wrestling tournament was held, guests were treated to Tatar pastries and chak-chak, and the highlight of the event was a concert featuring Star Factory performer Anton Zatsepin.
The giant cauldron of pilaf drew just as much attention as the main celebrity. For three hours, people lined up to receive full plates of rice with juicy meat, lavash, and vegetables.
Sabantuy is a holiday traditionally celebrated at the state level in Tatarstan and Bashkortostan. It starts in villages and small towns and concludes with a grand celebration in the capitals of the two republics — Kazan and Ufa. However, Sabantuy is also celebrated in other regions of Russia and even abroad.
“Arkhangelsk is no exception. The Tatar national cultural autonomy in northern Russia includes a large number of people, many of whom were born and raised in the Pomorye region but have not lost their cultural traditions, enriching the cultural life of the entire region,” said Rim Kalimullin.
