The International Festival “Nauruz” to feature theaters from Brazil, Greece, Russia, Turkey, South Africa, and other countries

From June 9 to 22, 2025, Kazan will host the 17th International Theater Festival of Turkic Peoples, “Nauruz.” The festival will bring together more than 15 theater troupes from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Russia’s national republics: Adygea, Altai, Crimea, Tatarstan, Khakassia, Chechnya, Chuvashia, and Yakutia.

As part of “Nauruz,” a Special Program of the 11th International Theater Olympiad will also be held. This program will feature performances by theaters from Brazil, Greece, South Africa, Turkey, as well as productions from Russian theaters. The Alexandrinsky Theater (St. Petersburg) will present the production “Liturgy ZERO” directed by Valery Fokin, and the Kamal Theater will stage Farid Bikchantayev’s “Mut. Muhajirs.” The Association of National Theaters of Russia will showcase a collaborative production of “Uncle Vanya” by the Bashkir Academic Drama Theater named after Majit Gafuri and the Mari National Drama Theater named after M. Shketan, directed by Stepan Pekteev.

Festival performances will be held at eight venues across the city: the Grand, Eastern, and Universal Halls of the new Kamal Theater building (74 Kh. Taktasha St.), the Grand and Small Halls of the Kamal Theater (1 Tatarstan St.), the Tinchurin Theater, the Ekiyat Puppet Theater, and the embankment of Lake Kaban.

“Our team has worked hard to create a program that features such a wide geography for the first time. We are confident that everyone will find something they love — from classic works to modern experimental forms. The ‘Nauruz’ festival is not only an opportunity to see outstanding performances but also a unique platform for exchanging experiences, meeting theater masters, and discussing relevant topics. We invite all viewers to be part of this amazing event that brings cultures together and inspires new achievements,” said Farid Bikchantayev, Artistic Director of the “Nauruz” festival.
