Local historian, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences Marat Safarov gave a lecture for the visitors of the Tatar language courses.
He acquainted the audience with the results of ethnographic research that took place in the area of the city of Temnikov, at the junction of the Ryazan, Penza, Nizhny Novgorod regions and the western part of the Republic of Mordovia, where Tatars live compactly.
Marat Safarov noted that two classics of modern Tatar literature — Hadi Taktash and Abdurakhman Absalyamov, as well as the famous Soviet artist Ahmed Kitaev are natives of these places.
The lecture ended with a discussion about the identity of the Tatars in the region.
