The production “Mother’s Field” of the Tatar State Academic Puppet Theatre “Ekiyat”, based on the novella by Chingiz Aitmatov and directed by Ilgiz Zayniev, Honored Art Worker of the Republic of Tatarstan, has been nominated for the Russian National Theatre Award “Golden Mask” of the 32nd Competition Cycle (2024–2025 season).
“Mother’s Field” is a story shared by many women, families, and peoples. Following the spirit of Aitmatov’s renowned novella, dedicated to his parents, the production raises questions about human destiny, grief, happiness, courage, fate, and love for one’s homeland.
A widow who has lost her husband and three sons in the war goes out to the field to share her sorrow with the mother-earth.
It is with the field — as if with a close and living being — that Tolkynay speaks, sharing her memories and sorrows, searching for answers to the questions that torment her.
There, in the field, piece by piece restoring the years she has lived, she finds the strength to continue making the right decisions and living with dignity and conscience.
