The Rais of Tatarstan: The “Selet” movement does a proper job of keeping our national culture and traditions alive

The Rais of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov, visited the area of the “Selet” forum near Bilyarsk village in Alekseevsky district. He was accompanied by Aigul Gabdrakhmanova, the head of the state budgetary institution  of the youth centre “Selet”, along with Rinat Sadykov, the Minister of Youth Affairs, Ilsur Khadiullin, the Education and Science Minister, and Irada Ayupova, the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Tatarstan.

In 2024, the Selet Forum will be a gathering of about 14,000 representatives of talented young people from all over the Republic of Tatarstan, as well as from regions of Russia and countries near and far abroad. Among the guests will be some outstanding scientists, figures of culture, art, and famous folk heroes and sportsmen.

Each shift at the forum will have hands-on and online lessons from leading experts and academics, cultural and artistic types, along with testing labs and platforms focusing on making things better for everyone and using digital tech to change the way things work.

Rustam Minnikhanov took a good look around the festival areas at the forum. He went to a cooking class, a lab where they were making IT tools to help promote the Tatar language and culture, a hands-on programming lesson, and a creative workshop. At one of these places, Aigul Gabdrakhmanova talked about the different projects the “Selet” movement has been working on.

Rustam Minnikhanov pointed out that the “Selet” movement puts a right good effort into keeping our national culture and traditions, our own language, alive and kicking. “This work needs doing in every district, every community, every school. We need to train up specialists for teaching the young people. Only by working together we can keep our language, traditions, and customs going strong. In this important task, we rely on you – the youth full of energy and drive. You are the future of our republic, our great country. I wish you all the best in your endeavours. We, in turn, will keep supporting your ideas” Rais said.

Then Rustam Minnikhanov visited the Holy Key in Bilyarsk. He was told about the progress being made in improving this unique place of pilgrimage, which draws in people from three different faiths – Muslim, Christian, and pagan. Every year, about 110,000 people visit the Holy Key. The updates will focus on the key bits of the shrine’s infrastructure: the spring area and the stairs leading up to the monument on the mountain “Khuzhalar tavy” (“Mountain of Hosts”).
