The history of the Tomsk land is inextricably linked with the history of the Tatars. The city of Tomsk was founded on the territories of local Tatar tribes: chats, Eushta, Kalmakov. Today, Tatars in the region are the second largest nationality after the Russians, therefore great attention is paid to the preservation of Tatar traditions.
We play “Asyk” and listen to “Shatlyk”!
In October, the Tomsk Regional Library for Children and Youth in the framework of the ethnocultural project “The people’s calendar: preserving the cultural traditions of the peoples of Siberia” held the “Holiday of Tatar culture”, in which Tomsk citizens became better acquainted with the culture, folklore and tales of Siberian Tatars. By tradition, an honored guest comes to such meetings dedicated to different nations and reads one of the tales with children aloud. This time, the deputy of the regional duma Galina Nemtseva, who read the Tatar fairy tale “Three sisters” to the children, acted as the reader.
The event was decorated with the performance of the Rodnichki ensemble from the Center for Siberian Folklore, which performed folk songs, and then the library staff introduced the guests to the holidays and customs of the Tatars, elements of national clothing, and dishes of the Tatar cuisine. Children and adults played in the folk games “Skullcap” and “Asyk.” A young reader of the library of Amir Farukshina told which Tatar traditions are passed down from generation to generation in her family, and also read Zulfiya Minhazhevoy’s poem “A Letter to Grandma” in her native language. The guests were also pleased with the children’s vocal group “Shatlyk” operating at the Zarechny Rural Leisure Center. Zamira Trofimova, Sofia Borisova and artistic director Alisa Kurbanbayeva performed the song “Tugan Yak” by Vasil Fattakhov. Performers from the Tatar village performed the dance “Tatar dances”, held a master class on teaching the common dance movements.
Elena Safiullina, a methodologist at the Center for Tatar Culture in the city of Tomsk, gave a small lesson in Tatar for the guests. Children and adults learned how the names of family members sound in Tatar and how to say “hello” and “goodbye”.
– We are trying to tell our readers about all the numerous nationalities that live in the Tomsk region. So this time, the participants of the holiday learned a lot of new and interesting things about the culture of the Tatars, saw the beauty of their costume and folklore. They could even be treated at a celebration – try the symbol of Tatar hospitality, a real home “Chak-chak”, said Olga Dubchenko, head of the department of foreign and national literature, for the activities of cultural organizations in the Commonwealth Library of the Commonwealth Center. centers and national autonomies of the Tomsk region.
