On 30 October, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan, Chairman of the National Council of the World Congress of the Tatars Vasil Shaikhraziev arrived in Moscow on a working trip. The opening of the the 8th World Congress of Russian Compatriots was held here.
Approximately 400 delegates from Russian communities in 100 countries attended the Congress, along with representatives from the legislative and executive branches of government of the Russian Federation, constituent entities of the Russian Federation, as well as experts and business leaders from Russia. The delegation included over ten representatives of the Tatar community from countries such as Australia, Peru, Uzbekistan, Lithuania, Azerbaijan, Belarus, and Tajikistan.
Sergey Lavrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, read a message of greetings from President Vladimir Putin and spoke about Russia’s work with compatriots abroad. Mr. Lavrov emphasized the importance of ensuring the rights of compatriots and protecting their interests, noting that everything should be done to preserve “All-Russian cultural identity.”
The Congress featured three plenary sessions and five thematic sections, providing a platform for compatriots to discuss matters of importance to their communities abroad. Key topics included preserving historical heritage and traditional values, protecting the rights and legitimate interests of compatriots, promoting the Russian language, popularizing domestic education, engaging young people in diaspora activities, developing Russian-language media, and facilitating resettlement in the Russian Federation.
