Today, the city of Novocheboksarsk has been visited by Vasil Shaykhraziev, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan, Chairman of the National Council of the World Congress of Tatars. Together with Olga Cheprasova, head of the Novocheboksarsk administration, he familiarized himself with progress of the construction work of the Novocheboksarsk Cathedral Mosque, and also congratulated the Muslim community on the upcoming Eid al-Adha holiday.
The DUM (Religious Board of Muslims) of the Chuvash Republic was established on May 18, 1994. If at that time there were only 2 mosques in the republic, today their number is 42.
From the day it was founded, Tatars began to live in the city. According to official figures, about 6 thousand Tatars and another two thousand Muslims of other nationalities live in the city.
After establishing the mahalla, Muslims began preparations for construction of a mosque. Through the efforts of the DUM of the Chuvash Republic and directly the mufti Albir-Khazrat Krganov, joint work began with the city authorities on the sorting out the land plot. The process was long, a suitable site was found, however, the decision to allocate it was soon canceled and the process to solve the problem has dragged on for several years. After the arrival of the new team in the city administration, an active dialogue began on solving the Muslim problem.
On the high bank of the Volga River, next to the Pedagogical College, finally, the land plot was allocated for construction of a mosque. 2012 is the year the mosque began to be built. To date, work is being completed.
The area of the Novocheboksarsky mosque is about 250 square meters. m. At the same time, 150 people can gather for prayer in it.
