As part of his working visit to St. Petersburg, Vasil Shaykhraziyev, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan and Chairman of the National Council of the World Congress of the Tatars, visited the St. Petersburg Cathedral Mosque, where he met with Mufti Ravil Pancheev, Chairman of the Centralized Religious Organization “Spiritual Administration of Muslims of St. Petersburg and the Northwestern Region of Russia.”
The St. Petersburg Cathedral Mosque was established in 1910. In 1881, the leader of the Muslim community in St. Petersburg, Akhund Ataulla Bayazitov, petitioned the government for permission to build a mosque in the city. It is the northernmost mosque in the world.
The mosque, decorated in gray-blue tones, has a height of 39 meters, with the spires of its two minarets reaching 48 meters. The main portal and dome are adorned with blue majolica. Inside, as is customary in Muslim places of worship, the decor remains modest and restrained.
