Since September 13, 2018, Tatar historian, honored scientist of the Republic of Tatarstan, academician of military history sciences, professor, candidate of historical sciences, chairman of the Council of the Society of Local lore of the Republic of Tatarstan, first deputy chairman of the Council of the All-Tatar Society of Local History at the World Congress of Tatars , member of the Scientific Council on the problems of socio-natural history at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the editorial board of the journal “History and Modernity”, deputy editor-in-chief the archaeologist Burkhanov Albert Akhmetzhanovich, who has in the baggage the edition of 68 books only in Tatarstan, is our fellow countryman, born in the village of Tugan-kir – Ust-Bagaryak of the Chelyabinsk region.

The scientist visited Almenevsky, Zverinogolovsky, Kurtamysh, Safakulovsky, Tselinny and Shadrinsky districts, i.e. municipal formations with a compact residence of the Tatar population. Albert Burkhanov earlier in July 2018  has visited n the village Almenovo at the IX All-Russian rural sabantui.

On the territory of the Almenevsky district, the scientist collected historical materials on the history of the Tatar villages: Almenevo, Vishnyakovo, Ivankovo, Tuzovo, Uchkulevo, historical and cultural heritage, visited the regional museum of local lore “Friendship”, met the senior regional ethnographer, 96-year-old (!) Fayruzoy Ibragimovna Shakirova, who presented her guest with the book “Milestones of the History of the Almenevsky District”, established contacts with local ethnographers, historians and Tatar public figures.

At a meeting with the Tatar community at the Sabantuy farmstead, Albert Burkhanov conducted a presentation of the local history magazine Tugan Zhir (Native Land), quarterly published by the Society of Tatar Local Studies of the World Tatar Congress, offered cooperation to local amateurs  of Tatar history in the publication of available local history information in Tatarstan mass media. In his speech, the guest touched upon the problems of preserving the Tatar language, which is necessary in kindergartens, schools, families to speak their native language. And also the need to preserve and develop the Tatar villages.

-To preserve the Tatar villages it is necessary to create a village passport, to study the history and, based on this, using local resources, to develop a strategy for the development of the village. Each village has its own resources: medicinal lakes, rivers, forests, land, people, objects of historical and cultural heritage, etc. Based on these resources, it is necessary to revive the village. Tatarstan is ready to support this. Today the Republic of Tatarstan, thanks to its high scientific, human resource potential, rich resources, as well as historical memory of its statehood in the past (Volga Bulgaria, Kazan Khanate) is one of the most developed regions of Russia.

The scholar cited examples of successful Tatar villages in Russia:  the  village Srednyaya  Eluzan of the Penza region, v. Kulatka of the Ulyanovsk Region, v. Alkino of the Samara Region, v.  Belozerye of Mordovia, where by their labor, using local resources, the Tatars preserved their native language, religion and culture and created a high standard of living for themselves. Albert Burkhanov proposed to develop tourist routes around the local sights of the Kurgan region and invited interested Tatars to the forthcoming conference on ethno-tourism in Kazan, scheduled for November 2018.

– There are different groups of Tatars: Volga, Teptyars, Mishars, Crimeans, Siberians, but it is necessary to remember, first of all, “Without Tatars!” (We are Tatars). If we put in the first place that I am Ulyanovsk, Ichkin Tatar, etc., then we will split into many small nations. It is necessary to study the historical and cultural heritage of all Tatar ethnic groups, but do not forget that, first of all, we are one people, the Tatars. Each region has its own peculiarities, for example, the more east of Tatarstan, the better preserved the tamga – the patrimonial sign.

– For us, local historians, the sources of information are museums. The museum is the face of the district, what head so is the museum. In conditions of budget deficit, as a rule, cultural institutions, including museums, are the first to be cut. Thanks to close cooperation with the authorities in Tatarstan, we are able not only to preserve museums, but also to repair existing ones, as well as to open new ones, “Albert Akhmetzhanovich Burkhanov emphasized in his speech during the meeting at the  Sabantuy’s farmsared. – Another source of historical information is the tombstones, they contain the name, years of life, human activities, the main milestones of his biography. In a village  Zverinogolovskoye  Tatar cemetery has been preserved – this is a huge source of information about local Tatars. Unfortunately, in Almenovo they  can not  boast  by this, but even the surviving plate of Fazil-Haji Tonkachev allowed us to learn a lot of valuable information. And imagine, if you have saved the entire cemetery, how much knowledge about your ancestors, the genealogies  we would have known today.

An important source of knowledge about the past are archives, storing: auditory tales (censuses conducted by the tsarist authorities), metric books of mosques. It is important to collect all available information using all available sources, – said the scholar A. Burkhanov.

Further, the distinguished guest noted in his speech the importance of preserving national names, in the era of globalization through foreign-language names, there is an intensive assimilation of the people. In conclusion, Albert Burkhanov encouraged  Tatar activists   by letters of honor.

Albert Burkhanov expresses gratitude to the chairman of the congress of the Tatars of the Kurgan region Marat Yunusov who   had helped him on his business trip, as well as to all local ethnographers who provided a lot of interesting information about their ancestors. The results of the trip will form the basis of new publications, articles and will be published in the near future. Information about the trip has already been published on the website of the World Congress of Tatars. In the future, the guest expressed his intention to continue the studies of the Tatars of the Kurgan region, organize the publication of local literature and conduct archaeological excavations.

Together with A.A. Burkhanov  director of the library museum named after the Tatar public figure Hadi Atlasi, Fazil Valikhmetov came, having  acquainted  with the great work carried out by the given institution on the edition of local lore literature, shezhere (genealogy), articles in newspapers, organization of thematic excursions.

The local historians express their confidence that the visit by  the eminent historian will give a new impetus to the study of the history of the districts of the Kurgan region with the compact living of the Tatars.
