Proposals for  Development Strategy for the Tatar People from the Republic of Turkey

December 17, 2018

In order to preserve and popularize the Tatar language among compatriots living abroad and foreign citizens, in the Republic of Turkey, Tatar language courses have been opened on the basis of higher educational institutions, as well as through the Turkish public associations of the Tatars.

In particular, prior to the beginning of the current school year, the Tatar language lessons were held at the University of Marmara (Istanbul). Today, together with the Kayum Nasyri Institute of the Kazan (The Volga Region) Federal University, the possibility of opening a branch of the Kayum Nasyri Institute on the basis of the Institute of Turkological Studies of the University of Marmara is being worked out. At the Faculty of Turkic Studies of Istanbul University, Tatar language courses have been opened for students studying in the direction of “Modern dialects of Turkic languages.” In the next academic year, it is also planned to open Tatar language courses at Istanbul University on May 29. In addition, Antalya teaches Sunday Tatar language lessons for children from 7 to 15 years old, organized by one of the cultural associations of the Tatars in the region.

Thus, we consider it expedient to include in the discussion of the Strategy for  Development of the Tatar People the issue of support by the Republic of Tatarstan of Tatar language courses organized abroad.

We also inform that the organizers of the Tatar language courses are turning to the Republic of Tatarstan for support in providing students of the courses with modern educational and methodical literature, audio-  video materials and fiction in the Tatar language.

In connection with the above, we ask you to consider the possibility of your instructions on providing the organizers of the Tatar language courses in the Republic of Turkey with the necessary materials in accordance with their treatment.

Plenipotentiary Representative of the Republic of Tatasrtan  in the Republic of Turkey
