Local national-cultural autonomy of Tatars of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk invites on Sunday, June 23, to celebrate the annual regional Tatar-Bashkir national holiday “Sabantuy 2019” at the City Culture and Recreation Park, reports IA SakhalinMedia with reference to the press service of the Assembly of Peoples Sakhalin region.
As chairman of the autonomy, Halim Mirzadovich Samirkhanov, said, Sabantuy is a plow holiday. Tatars and Bashkirs celebrate it at the end of sowing. Guests from Aniva, Dolinsk, Korsakov, Kholmsk, Poronaisk and other settlements of the island will arrive at the celebration. Everyone will be able to take part in master classes in cooking national dishes and handicrafts, as well as playing Kubyz – the traditional Bashkir and Tatar vargan. This instrument performs dance tunes and various holiday melodies.
For children, a special platform with national games will be organized, and a strong half of humanity will be able to take part in wrestling “Koresh.” Moreover, the winners of the wrestling tournament will be awarded valuable prizes, and the absolute champion will be able to pick up the main prize of a live sheep and 15,000 rubles.
Such a large-scale holiday was made possible thanks to the support of the regional government and the Assembly of the Peoples of the Sakhalin Region. According to Vasily Kuzin, artistic director of the Duslyk ensemble, in February of this year, the national-cultural autonomy of the Tatars of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk became the winner of a regional grant competition with the social and educational project Ethnographic Kaleidoscope. Within the framework of the project, the ensemble “Duslyk” operating under the autonomy will travel with concerts to the districts of the region.
