Tatarstan film “Mulla” will be shown in Europe

In October, the Tatarstan film “Mulla” will be presented in European cities. This is one of the most popular Tatarstan films  by  two directors – Ramil Fazliev and Amir Galiaskarov. The film was shot based on the work by  the Tatar playwright Tufan Minnullin, with the support of the President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov.

From October 5 to 12, the Tatarstan picture will be shown in Berlin, Frankfurt, Geneva, Vienna and Prague.

According to the plot of the picture, a hero named Asfandiyar receives an unexpected offer from his wealthy well-wisher Samat to become a mullah in the village where he built a mosque. The arrival of a young mullah in the village reveals a whole layer of deep-seated problems of the modern Tatar village, the main root of which lies in lack of spirituality. Asfandiyar will have to reverse this situation with the help of true faith and the firmness of his character.

The film “Mullah” was well received by viewers not only in Russia, but also in Egypt, Italy, Finland, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and was awarded a number of significant film awards.

The producer, the author of the idea of the film, Marat Akhmetshin, is sure that there are several reasons for this interest of the audience in the film.

Firstly, the very name of Tufan Minnullin is intriguing, of interest. Secondly, now people are more and more concerned with topics relating to faith, and this is now relevant. Thirdly, the film turned out really good, ”said Marat Akhmetshin.

While watching the movie “Mullah”, viewers often can not hold back tears.

I can’t explain for you why this is happening. I can hypothesize – no one has ever spoken about this. We somehow managed to very clearly show the Tatar mentality, what the Tatars live in, their spiritual world, – the author of the idea of the film shared.

The general producer of this project and  director of Tatarkino, Milyausha Aytuganova, said that the initiative to show the film in Europe came from Tatars living abroad. According to her, the film “Mullah” is of interest not only among representatives of the Tatar diasporas, but also among viewers of other nationalities. For example, the picture was a great success among the inhabitants of Finland.

The film will cause interest among the Tatars of Europe. I have no doubt about that. Because this is a close work for us. And people who live outside Tatarstan naturally  perceive films in the Tatar language even more emotionally, ”M. Aytuganova noted. She recalled that the film has already been translated into Russian, English, Turkish, now it will also be translated into German.

This suggests that if there is a story in the film, then it is interesting to many, especially when this content is related to our nation, mentality, authenticity. It seems to me that the success of such a wide show is precisely in this, ”M. Aytuganova emphasized.
